First time contributors will also need to [http://www.gnu.org/licenses/why-assign.html assign copyright] of what you contribute to the project, in particular to the principal author, Bob Smith.  This is by no means an attempt to take credit for what you have contributed — instead, it provides a single point of reference from a legal standpoint in case the program's copyright (actually [http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/copyleft.html copyleft]) needs to be enforced.
